About
The objective of Rainbow Kidz is to build a clearer and more easily accessible training and competitive pathway for players aged 10 and under. The focus is on being introduced to competition and learn the rules for matchplay.

Orange and Green ball singles and doubles matches are included during events. The aim is to give skills for life, get children into the game improve tennis skills and learn the rules so when they transition into the u/12 section they are more confident and prepared.

Orange – For players that are physically too small to compete on the normal size tennis court, as the size of the court will allow technical, tactical, physical and mental competencies to develop. First time players are recommended to enter the orange section.

Green – For players that can score and have some match play experience, even if it was just practice matches. Also, for better players to develop the necessary tennis skills and be better equipped to transition into the u/12 section.

We recommend parents engage and receive advice from the coach on which section to enter. If you are unsure please contact us at

Firstly - I also agree with the fact that some players don't show for matches which means that you might have to wait 2 hours "in between matches" only to find out 2 hours later that the player left and that you waited for nothing. Some have older kids playing in the senior tournaments and you then miss their game waiting for players in the junior tournament that don't show. My suggestion would be a 1 tournament ban if you just leave without notifying the officials and opponents of your intention not to continue play.
Secondly - perhaps we can have more officials "oberving" matches (which is done by Gauteng Central) to ensure that the little ones play fair. We are constantly experiencing issues with the same players who don't adhere to the rules or make up their own rules to intimadate the other players. I do realise the aim of these tournaments are to have fun but it spoils the fun for others when players this young so blatantly cheats to get ahead. It becomes almost impossible to beat some of the players by just playing an honest match, which suddenly changes when an official is standing on the court and they suddenly adhere to the rules.

Something should be done about players not pitching up for their matches at Rainbow Kidz tournaments. This is especially a problem on the 2nd day of these tournaments. There are players travelling far from other towns and provinces who then have consecutive walkovers. Some players have become known among the parents as serial no-shows. Not sure how they should be dealt with? Maybe a fine which should be paid before the player is allowed to enter a next Rainbow Kidz tournament.
